Joshua Otaigbe, Principal Partner
Prof. Joshua U. Otaigbe, PhD, CEng, FIMMM, CSci, FAEng, FSPE

I have had a professional career path of more than 40 years that spans North American, European, and African continents, including visiting professorships in ETH Zurich in Switzerland, INSA de Lyon in France, and University of Alberta in Canada amongst other universities. I am the Founder and Principal Partner of Flaney Associates LLC, a technical consulting company that provides value-added materials engineering solutions and innovations to industry. I am also a full Professor Emeritus of Polymer Science & Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi. I can translate strategic value-added materials ideas to practice, a proven problem solver, and a registered Chartered Engineer.

I have enjoyed highly successful careers in industry and academia. I specialize in polymer engineering and materials science, and I have held numerous senior level appointments including Senior Project Leader and Engineer at Corning Incorporated and the Fulbright-Tocqueville Distinguished Chair Professor in Engineering in France for 2013-2014. The latter award is an appointment reserved for international eminent scholars with substantial experience and publications in their respective fields.

From 2003-2012, I was awarded invited visiting professorships in the Swiss Federal Institute of technology (ETH-Zurich) and Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) in Lyon, France. I earned my PhD in polymer science and engineering from the University of Manchester (UMIST) in England in 1984. I joined The University of Southern Mississippi in 2002 as a professor of polymer engineering and science following a successful career at Iowa State University as professor of chemical engineering and of materials science and engineering, and elsewhere. I have won several awards, including the Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (U.K.), Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers, Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, and the prestigious U.S. National Science Foundation CAREER Award. I am the holder of seven patents and author of more than 150 publications in refereed archival scientific and engineering journals and books.
