Enhancing Polymer Performance with Quasicrystal Composites
A novel class of polymer/quasicrystal composites is set to transform material science by significantly enhancing mechanical properties. Researchers, including Joshua U. Otaigbe, have combined polymers with Al–Cu–Fe quasicrystals to improve wear resistance and double the storage modulus compared to traditional polymers. This breakthrough offers new possibilities for durable, high-performance components such as dry bearings and composite gears.
The composites also demonstrated superior thermal stability and rigidity without compromising the polymer matrix. These advancements open doors to innovative applications in industries requiring lightweight, wear-resistant materials.
